Farmers often need quick answers on crop problems, pests, weather or government schemes. The Kisan Call Centre (KCC) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare provides free advice over the phone. Here is how it works.
The number
Farmers can call the toll free number **1800-180-1551** from any mobile or landline. The service was launched in January 2004 and has handled crores of calls since then.

Timing and languages
The service generally runs from early morning to late evening on all days. Calls are answered in many Indian languages through centres in different states, so farmers can speak in their own language.
How it works
- **Level 1:** trained agricultural graduates, called Farm Tele Advisors, answer the call and try to solve the query immediately.
- **Level 2:** if the query is complex, it is passed to subject matter experts at state agriculture departments, ICAR institutes or agricultural universities, who call the farmer back.
The details of calls are recorded, which helps track common problems in each area.
