Rail Madad is the Indian Railways grievance redressal system for passengers. If you face a problem on a train or at a station, you can report it and get help while travelling. Here is how it works.
Ways to complain
- **Helpline 139:** a single number for railway enquiries and complaints. It works through calls and SMS.
- **Rail Madad website:** railmadad.indianrailways.gov.in
- **Rail Madad app:** available on Android and iOS
- **Social media:** Indian Railways also responds to complaints tagged to its official handles
For security emergencies, you can also call the Railway Protection Force helpline, which is integrated with 139, or the national emergency number 112.

What you can complain about
- Cleanliness of coaches and toilets
- Water shortage in coaches

Track and give feedback
You can track the status using the reference number on the website or app. After the problem is resolved, you may get a call or SMS asking for feedback. Rate the service honestly, as it helps improve the system.
Tips for faster help
- Give exact details like coach number and berth number.
- Add a clear photo of the problem.
- For medical emergencies, call 139 immediately so help can be arranged at the next station.
- Keep your phone charged during long journeys.
Refund issues
Rail Madad handles service complaints. For ticket refunds after cancellation or train delays, use the IRCTC refund and TDR options or the ticket counter.
Bottom line
Save 139 in your phone before you travel. With your PNR handy, you can report most train problems in a few minutes through Rail Madad.
