The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is a single online platform for many central government scholarships, along with some state and UGC or AICTE schemes. It is part of the National e-Governance Plan and helps students apply, track and receive scholarships through DBT.
Scholarships on NSP
These include pre matric and post matric scholarships for SC, ST, OBC and minority students run by different ministries, the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships for college and university students, scholarships for students with disabilities, and others. The list changes each year, so check the portal.

One Time Registration
NSP has introduced One Time Registration (OTR). Students first get an OTR number using Aadhaar or other allowed details and mobile OTP, and then use it to apply for scholarships for the rest of their studies.
How to apply
- Visit scholarships.gov.in.
- Complete OTR with Aadhaar based eKYC or face authentication through the NSP OTR app.
- Log in with your OTR number.
- Fill in academic, bank and other details.
- Select the scholarships you are eligible for and submit.
- Your institute verifies the application, followed by district or state and ministry level checks.

Frequently asked questions
Is Aadhaar mandatory?
NSP uses Aadhaar based OTR and payments. Students without Aadhaar should check the portal for alternatives allowed under each scheme.
Who verifies my application?
First your school or college, then the district or state nodal officer, and finally the ministry.
How will I get the money?
Through DBT into your Aadhaar seeded bank account.
Can I apply for two scholarships together?
Generally a student can receive only one central scholarship at a time. Check each scheme’s rules on NSP.
Bottom line
Register once on NSP, apply on time and make sure your institute verifies your form so the scholarship reaches your bank account.
